Inna Talantova is a Northern California based artist working primarily in watercolors and oil paints.

Inna grew up in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, Russia. She attended various art schools, finishing at the state university. With the breakup of the U.S.S.R. in 1991, the region’s art scene blossomed. Inna exhibited her paintings in St. Petersburg and Germany. She moved to the U.S. with her husband Paul C. Miller and their daughter Alexandra. Her paintings are a unique combination of Eastern European sensibilities given new purpose under California light.

Plein Air Painting

In addition to the paintings made in her studio in Monte Rio, California, Inna paints outdoors in the “plein air” tradition, carrying her canvases and tubes of paint to various locations to capture with her brushes light and its changing, unpredictable qualities.

“When i ARRIVE AT A PLACE, I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING IN THAT SCENE SPEAKS TO ME AND I FEEL AN URGENCY TO CAPTURE WHATEVER IT MAY BE—THE LIGHT, A CERTAIN RHYTHM IN THE SHAPES OF THE TREES, OR MOVEMENT. I TRY TO LOOK AT A SCENE INDIRECTLY, AS IF THROUGH A MIRROR, WHERE I CAN SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE MORE THAN THE DETAILS.”
